Malcolm Finlayson , Ph.D., President and CEO

Dr. Finlayson joined Ångstrom in January of 2007. Dr. Finlayson serves as a Venture Partner at Hamilton Bioventures, and helped to find and evaluate the fund’s investment in Egea Biosciences in 2000. Dr. Finlayson served as President of Egea from 2001 through the successful sale in 2004 to Johnson & Johnson. Formerly, Dr. Finlayson was Director of R&D, COO, then President of a Division of Invitrogen Corporation, San Diego’s largest Biotechnology company. Dr. Finlayson has also been a management consultant to Biotechnology companies, and a research scientist at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. Dr. Finlayson has authored numerous publications.

Dr. Finlayson received a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of British Columbia.

Dale J. Kostman, Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Kostman has over 27 years of business experience relating to the financial growth of entrepreneurial and middle market companies. He held Corporate Controller, Director of Finance, CFO/COO, and CFO posts in developing his career and has directed a successful IPO. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from San Diego State University.

Kerry Dance, Ph.D. 

Dr. Dance is Managing Partner of Hamilton Apex Technology Ventures. He has 25 years of executive experience, acting both as a scientist and a leader. He has previously served as CEO of Advanced Distillation Technology, as President of the S-Cubed Division of Maxwell Laboratories, Inc., and Vice President of Technology for Aerojet General Corporation.  Dr. Dance was also President of General Atomics Corporation. While at General Atomics he founded an in-house venture enterprise, which spun off several successful companies.  Dr. Dance attended Stanford University where he received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a Nuclear Option and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Engineering Science.

Chi Yap

Mr. Yap is the Pacific Gate representative on Angstrom. Pacific Gate is the second largest shareholder of Angstrom stock. Mr. Yap resides in Beijing and Hong Kong and is active in Venture Capital in the U.S. and China. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and is fluent in several languages.

Donald W. Grimm

Mr. Grimm is a Venture Partner at Hamilton Apex Technology Ventures and serves as Chair of fund's Life Science Executive Advisory Board. He held various senior management positions with Eli Lilly. Mr. Grimm was also President, CEO and Chairman of Hybritech, Inc after its acquisition by Lilly.  Mr. Grimm is on the boards of the Green Cancer Center at Scripps Clinic, the UCSD Cancer Center Foundation, San Diego Tech Coast Angels, Chairmans Roundtable, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors. Mr. Grimm served as an officer in the U.S. Army, Medical Service Corps. He has both a B.S. in Pharmacy and an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.

Stephen B. Howell, M.D.

Dr. Howell is a medical oncologist and Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He serves as Associate Director for Clinical Research and Director of the Cancer Therapeutics Training Program at the Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego, and also runs the Clayton Foundation Drug Resistance Laboratory at the Cancer Center. Dr. Howell a member of the Committee on Experimental Medicine of the Gynecologic Oncology Group. He is the recipient of patents for his innovative work in chemotherapeutics, drug-delivery systems, and diagnostic assays. He has received numerous awards, including the Milken Family Medical Foundation Award for Outstanding Work in the Field of Cancer Research, a presidential citation from the American Head and Neck Society, a Fogarty Senior International Fellowship. Dr. Howell is a member of numerous societies, including the American Association for Cancer Research and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Howell graduated from Harvard Medical School, completed his internship and residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital and the University of California, San Francisco, and his medical oncology training at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He completed his research training at the National Institutes of Health. He is board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. Dr. Howell co-founded, DepoTech, Beacon Laboratories, and Targa Pharmaceuticals. He has served on the Board of Directors and as Medical Director of each of these companies. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of Matrix Pharmaceuticals, and is currently on the Board of Directors of Access Pharmaceuticals. He serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards and Data Safety Monitoring Boards of a number of both large and small pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. David C. U'Prichard

Dr. David C. U'Prichard currently serves as a President of Druid Consulting LLC, consulting to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries from his base in Philadelphia, US, and as a Venture Partner at Red Abbey Venture Partners (Baltimore). During 2003 – 2006, he was a Venture Partner for Apax Partners Ltd. (London) and Care Capital LLC (Princeton). From 1999 to 2003 he was CEO of 3-Dimensional Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Yardley PA. During that time he took 3DP public and secured large collaborations with Bristol-Myers Squibb and Johnson & Johnson. In March 2003, 3DP become a part of Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical R&D. From 1997 to 1999, Dr. U'Prichard served as Chairman of Research and Development at SmithKline Beecham. Prior to SmithKline Beecham, he worked for ICI/Zeneca from 1986 to 1997, as Executive Vice President and International Research Director from 1994 to 1997. While at Zeneca and SmithKline Beecham, Dr. U’Prichard oversaw the discovery and development of a number of successful drugs including Seroquel®, Accolate®, Avandia® and Iressa®. Previously, Dr. U'Prichard was instrumental in the launch of Nova Pharmaceuticals, Baltimore MD in 1983, following an academic career as tenured Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Neurobiology at Northwestern University Medical School (1978-83), and his postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University (1975-78). Dr. U'Prichard received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Kansas, and his B.S. in Pharmacology with first-class honors from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. He has held academic appointments at Northwestern University, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania and is an Honorary Professor at the University of Glasgow. He is also an author of more than 100 primary and review publications and has served as a member of various editorial boards. Dr. U'Prichard serves on the boards of a number of public and private companies in the US and abroad. Dr. U’Prichard was Chairman of the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Association 2004-2005 and has served on the boards of BioAdvance, the Biotechnology Greenhouse of Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Southeastern Pennsylvania. Dr. U’Prichard is a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton, is a Trustee of the International House of Philadelphia and is on the Board of the Bioethics Institute of the University of Pennsylvania.

Martin Nash

Mr. Nash served as the President and Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Financial Officer of Genetronics, Inc. Prior to joining Genetronics, Inc., Mr. Nash was co-founder, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Cypros Pharmaceutical Corporation, co-founder of Corvas International, Inc., and Vice President of Corporate Development at Synbiotics. He was also President of Molecular Biosystems, Inc., and held a variety of marketing and business development management positions at Ortho Diagnostics Systems, Inc., a division of Johnson & Johnson, Inc., and at Becton Dickinson & Company. Mr. Nash has also served as President of the Association of Biotechnology Companies and has served on numerous Boards. Mr. Nash received a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Philosophy from Boston College and did graduate work in Finance at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
